Turning Collective Effort into Extraordinary Results
BUILDING BETTER TOGETHER
Johannesburg, South Africa (August 28, 2025) – Architects and designers often push creative boundaries to build the best buildings, but the reality of bringing those visions to life rests in the hands of contractors. It’s on site where ideas meet challenges and where the smallest delay or oversight can lead to costly setbacks.
“Contractors are the heartbeat of every successful project,” says John Westermeyer, Director: Key Accounts and Sales Enablement at Eva-Last. “Our role is to stand alongside them with the right support, training, and materials so they can build with confidence and deliver quality every time.”
COLLABORATION IN PRACTICE
Eva-Last works closely with contractors, engineers, and project teams, not only supplying composite solutions but also helping to streamline the often-complex process of installation. From providing technical drawings and samples to hands-on training and on-site advice, the company emphasizes collaboration as much as it does material innovation.
Feedback from the field also plays a major role. “We are forever exploring practical suggestions from contractors to make our systems easier to use on site,” adds Westermeyer. That approach has led to improvements such as tailored brackets, fasteners, and structural solutions designed to simplify construction without compromising on design intent.
Recent projects highlight this spirit of partnership. At Waterfall Walk, Eva-Last worked with the construction team to create custom fasteners and brackets for a striking cladding and pergola installation. Similarly, bespoke brackets were manufactured for KFC’s flagship store, The Wedge in Rivonia, ensuring a seamless finish that aligned with the architect’s vision.

BUILDING SKILLS AND PARTNERSHIPS
Skilled contractors are essential to the success of any build, yet their role is often overlooked once the design phase is complete. Proper training, fair recognition, and continued professional development are key to ensuring that structures don’t just look good on paper but perform well in the real world.
Recognising this, Eva-Last supports initiatives that encourage contractor growth and knowledge-sharing, from technical training opportunities to long-term partnerships that reward excellence on site. The emphasis is not just on using the right products, but on how they are specified, handled, and installed to achieve the best possible results.
“At the end of the day, it’s the contractor who brings the vision to life”, says Westermeyer. “The more confident and skilled they are, the better the outcome for everyone involved, from architects and developers to the families and communities who use these spaces.”
